Buy your fruits & vegetables from one of the dozens of neighborhood fruterías in Ajijic, such as Frutería López.

Ajijic and the surrounding towns have dozens of stores which sell fruits and vegetables, called fruterías (fru-ter-EE-ahs).

Sure, you can go to WalMart, Costco or Soriana to buy your fruits and vegetables there. But for most locals, it’s more convenient to go to their neighborhood frutería when they need something for the kitchen. And like shopping at the local corner store, it’s also an important way for neighbors to keep in touch and catch up on the day’s news.

Frutería López in Ajijic has two locations. The first is on the highway at Carretera Oriente #26 (across from the Oxxo). The second is at Parroquía #12 on the south side of the Ajijic plaza. (The Parroquía location used to be located about a block east on Hidalgo until 2018.)

You’ll find a pretty full selection of fruits and vegetables here, including bananas, mangos, apples, kiwis, peaches, cherries, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, cantaloupes, plums, guavas, oranges, watermelons, pineapples, avocados, onions of various colors, Mexican green onions, cucumbers, zucchini, corn, lettuce, mushrooms, leeks, eggplant, chiles, green tomatoes (tomatillos), broccoli, cauliflower, celery, cilantro, mint, basil and more.
