Horseback rides through Ajijic or on mountainside trails with a town legend.
Regino Flores, a well-known personality around Ajijic, offers several tours on horseback of Ajijic, the lakefront, and the mountains north of town.
Tours are offered on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and are designed for people without any previous riding experience.
The Ajijic tour, for $250 pesos per person, takes you through the town’s neighborhoods. Meet some of the locals and visit some of the places that make Ajijic magical, including the malecón (boardwalk) along the lake.
Enjoy the lakefront from Ajijic to San Antonio for $350 pesos per person and learn about some of the lake’s history, myths and stories. You’ll visit neighboring San Antonio Tlayacapan, including their plaza and church.
Experience amazing views of Lake Chapala on the Ajijic mountain tour for $500 pesos per person.
Regino, who spent some years living in California, has taught about horsemanship and offered tours for 30 years, so he’ll be able to and answer all your questions in English. He also appeared in a few Mexican films a couple of decades ago.
The best way to get in touch with Regino would probably be to stop by his property on Callejon de la Zapota at the west end of Ajijic (see the Google street view). Or swing by La Floresta, where you might find more horses for rent (see the map).
