Guided traditional temazcal ceremonies in a handbuilt sweat lodge on the hillside in Riberas del Pilar.

Have you been to a traditional temazcal sweat lodge ceremony yet? Get a group of up to ten people together for a ceremony at Coyohualli Temazcal.

The experience starts with the invocation of the four directions:

Coyohualli Temazcal

Then you’ll get cleansed with sage before entering the temazcal:

Go to a Temazcal Sweat Lodge

Then it’s time to head inside the temazcal where everyone sings and beats on drums:

Inside the temescal.

After getting out of the sweat lodge, you’ll get watered down and it’s time to go back inside. Each round inside the temazcal lasts about 20 minutes.

Ceremonies last about 90 minutes in total. If you feel like you’re too hot after one of the rounds inside the sweat lodge, you don’t have to go back in (and shouldn’t, according to the experts). The atmosphere is warm and accepting at Coyohualli Temazcal, so you won’t be seen as less of a spiritual if you can only stand one or two rounds of baking inside the temazcal.

You should bring a towel to clean up with (you’re definitely gonna sweat), plus a blanket to cover yourself with completely from head to toe afterward for a quiet period lying down outside.

The total cost for the experience will set you back $250 pesos. It includes fruit (for after the ceremony) and drinking water, but you’ll need to bring your own cup and fork. (Jalisco recently banned disposable plastics, so businesses are doing their part to comply.)

Feel free to bring other things to eat, drink or share for after the ceremony, but neither drugs nor alcohol are permitted.

Contact Coyohualli Temazcal through their Facebook page or call Yadir Flores at 558-452-6102 to make an appointment.
