How to Get to Morelia by First Class Bus

1. Buy your tickets online or wait until you get to the bus station in Guadalajara

ETN and Primera Plus are the two main bus lines from Guadalajara to Morelia. You can wait until you get to the bus station in Guadalajara. Or you can purchase your tickets online at the ETN or Primera Plus website.

On the ETN website, select “Guadalajara” as the origin for your trip. Choose “Guadalajara, Central Nueva” on the Primera Plus website. Tickets for both lines cost about $500 pesos each way.

It’s rare that a bus is full, so you can easily purchase your tickets when you get to the bus station. ETN departs every hour from Guadalajara and Primera Plus every two hours. If the bus is sold out, you’ll wait at most an hour for the next one.

2. Take the bus from Ajijic to Guadalajara

Go to the bus station in Ajijic, below, and purchase a ticket for about $50 pesos to Guadalajara.

Get off at El Álamo which is immediately south of El Periférico, the major highway that encircles the city. Lots of other people will probably be getting off here, but you can ask the driver to let you off at “El AHL-ah-mo.” The bus trip takes about 45 minutes.

3. Take a taxi to the new Guadalajara bus station

A few taxis are usually lingering around the El Álamo bus stop. The taxi stand is located here:

Tell the driver you want to go to the Central Nueva, the “new” bus station. It should take about 15 minutes to get there.

4. Take the bus from Guadalajara to Morelia

ETN buses leave every hour and Primera Plus every two hours. It takes about three and a half hours to reach Morelia by bus from Guadalajara.

Morelia to Pátzcuaro

You can take another bus to Pátzcuaro, but you might find it easier, though more expensive, to hail a cab for around $300 pesos. The trip takes about an hour.
